In reply to the previous poster; yes, singing is a feature of masses at Sacred Heart. I was thinking during mass on Sunday how much the singing helps us to be participants in the service rather than passive attendees so I personally welcome it. That said, not all masses last as long as the one you said you attended. I'm guessing that it was the 11:00 service. If you attended the 9:00 service instead, you would find it featured less singing. I personally like to attend the Saturday Vigil Mass where our singing is accompanied by some quite beautiful guitar music.
I disagree with the previous person's comment, the first time my husband and I attended mass here a lovely lady sitting next to us 'welcomed us' to the church. However, there is a new priest and we attended mass a few Sundays ago and I'm sorry to say my husband and I walked out. The mass was incredibly long. There was a lot of singing and we were there a full hour and we were still no where near receiving communion. We were meeting people for lunch so we had to leave otherwise we would have been late. I felt guilty walking out but over an hour's worth of mass is far too long. I do not feel it's necessary to sing nearly every single word. I prefer a shorter mass with no singing. I don't know if this was a one off as it was around the time of thanksgiving and there were lots of Americans in Cobham that weekend, but the amount of singing has put me off going back. I don't mind the odd hymn but this was just too much.
